Welcome to Tonguetide, the language-learning social network. Like Facebook and Twitter, Tonguetide is a place to connect with other people, except that here you can meet people who want to learn languages too.
Let's run through some of the site's main features and how it can help you learn a new language for free.
Chat
Like most social networks, Tonguetide’s most valuable feature is the ability to communicate over live chat. You can practise your language skills with real native speakers by messenger (like Facebook Chat), video chat (like Skype), or our internal mailing system (just like email). Use our Match feature to find a native speaker fluent in the language you want to improve (ideally one who wants to learn your native language), read their information to find someone you fancy talking to and invite them to chat by adding them as a friend, sending them a private message, commenting on their profile or "sticking your tongue out" (like "poking" on Facebook). You could be chatting with your new language-exchange partner in seconds!
Match
Tonguetide’s Match feature is essential for anyone looking for the perfect language-exchange partner. It’s also great for language teachers looking for new students - or vice-versa. In fact, it’s so easy to use you don’t need to do a thing! Our system will automatically alert you of new users who speak the language you want to learn and perhaps even share some of your interests. Our World Map even allows you to pinpoint users’ locations on a Google Map – so you could meet them face-to-face and have a language-exchange the old fashioned way!
Tonguetide classes
If practising your language skills on Tonguetide for free isn’t enough for you, then why not take classes with one of our language teachers trained in the Tonguetide method. Our online classes offer speaking practise in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German combined with our self-study courses - perfect for those with a busy schedule. You could even use our free video/voice chat service to teach from home. You never have to commute to class again!
