What is Tonguetide and how do I use it?
Tonguetide is a language-learning social network. Like Facebook and Twitter, Tonguetide is a place to connect with people, except that here you'll be meeting people who want to learn languages too! Tonguetide is also a place for anyone in the language world.
Our system will suggest people who want to learn your language and can also teach you the language you want to learn. You can practise your language skills with them for free with our instant messenger service (like Facebook Chat or MSN Messenger) or video chat (like Skype).
Not only that, you can take one of our self-study courses - packed with videos, audio, fun grammar, vocabulary and reading exercises. You can also read the regular blogs from Tonguetide's expert language teachers (as well as those from our members) with helpful hints for learning languages, browse our directory of useful language-learning websites or just make a few new friends.
Tonguetide is also a place for language professionals to promote themselves. Whether it's a translation service or language school, you'll find the right place to write about your business on Tonguetide.

How should I get in touch with people I’m interested in?
If you find someone you want to practise your language skills with, take classes with, offer employment to, make friends with, etc… you can send them a private message, click "add as friend" to make a friend request or post a message on their profile. If you're a bit shy, you could try "sticking your tongue out" to let them know you're interested in them. Maybe they'll stick their tongue out back at you...
What kind of things should I post?
Try to keep it relevant to the spirit of the site. Tonguetide is a language-learning community so keep your input relevant to that. Post tips on some of the best ways to learn languages, a review of a language-learning site you've found (or built), your experience with a particular language academy, etc... Publish fun material by all means; just keep it language-oriented.
Can I customize my profile?
Yes, you can do that from your Edit Profile page in the profile menu. You can also change your profile picture, email address and other information there too.
How do I upload video about language learning?
In your profile page, go to the Video menu and click "add album". Follow the instructions on screen to add videos to your albums. Remember, your video has to be relevant to learning languges or your language business.
What are tags?
Tags are single descriptive words that are used by the system to find you or your content. These words are turned into links so people can click them to find you, your blogs, website recommendations, etc. For example, if you are writing a blog about your adventures in teaching English in South Korea, you should use tags like; English, teaching, South Korea, TEFL, etc.
Can I upload nude photos?
It really depends on how good you look naked, but in general we’d rather you didn’t. Thanks for the offer though! But seriously, the idea of inclusing your photo is so that other people have an idea of who they are talking to if you decide to have a language-exchange with them. How can I make my blog/classified ad/video/profile featured so it appears more prominently on the site?
We pick language websites we deem worthy of being featured regularly. However, if you’d like to be considered, get in touch and state your case.
Do you release info on members?
Never! We will never disclose any information on members to any party for any reason. You are safe here.
How do I know if someone's online?
You will see a little light bulb in the top right of a member's image and if it's on, they're online! Your online friends can be found on the bar at the bottom of the screen; just click on the Friends icon.
I want to delete my account, how do I do it?
You can delete your account at any time by logging into your account and clicking Settings. Look for Unregister.
